Tips for first time drivers

If you’ve just passed your test, first of all, congratulations! Now it is time to get on the road and explore. Here are our tips for driving on the roads when it is all still relatively new to you.

Accelerate and brake

Do both of these things with caution. Especially if you are in a vehicle which is new to you. Apply light pressure when accelerating or braking to make sure you don’t go or stop with too much aggression. You will find your feet in no time, but it is always better to be cautious.

Parking carefully

When you’re at the beginning of your driving journey, look for places to park that are less crowded. For example, if you go to the supermarket it may be worth parking a little further away to make sure you have enough room to maneuver.

Routes you know

We would recommend practicing the routes you know first, before heading out on wild adventures. It can be surprisingly stressful trying a new route, even when you have been driving for decades.

Take someone with you

For moral support or to act as sat-nav it might be worth taking someone out with you on your first few times on the road. It can be reassuring, especially as you will have only driven with someone in the car and not on your own.
